Undugu Society of Kenya

Undugu’s drum making community is comprised of 300 artisans based in Majengo. The artisans access new markets and create a sustainable living by working with Undugu, a social enterprise that empowers lives through trade.

‘Undugu’ is a Kiswahili word meaning brotherhood and solidarity.  The organisation seeks to promote the economic empowerment of vulnerable children, youth and marginalised communities living on the streets of Nairobi and beyond.

They support innovation, research and development for artisans - each individual is specialised in their sector and earns a fair wage and bonuses. Crafting high quality products for international trade enables them to fulfil their aspirations and become self sufficient.
