Customer Care
Availability of Stock
Most of our artisans create their products on a made to order basis. While we can reorder some items, the timeframe on receiving the new stock is sometimes unreliable and never guaranteed.
If you see something you want for a special occasion we recommend you snap it up as the nature of handcrafted stock means we do not have a lot of each piece.
Feel free to enquire about anything that is currently sold out and we'll see what we can do. We are always open to new product or brand suggestions too!
Please note, there can be a lot of variation in the cost of shipments and international freight is increasing all the time. While we will do our best to keep prices consistent, they are subject to change (up or down) at any time without notice.
Product Descriptions
All items are described and photographed as accurately as possible, however most items are handmade and therefore these items will never be identical to those pictured. Please check the measurements in the product descriptions, these should be accurate to within 1-2cm unless otherwise stated and where possible we will show children or other objects to indicate scale. Due to computer configurations, colours shown on your monitor may be different from the actual colour of the items. Feel free to contact us before purchasing if you need any additional help!
Product Safety
Our toys are safe for your little ones! All of our wooden products are finished with non toxic, lead free paints, AZO-free dyes and child safe finishes. They have been tested and meet or exceed NZ safety standards and regulations (AS/NZS ISO 8124.3:2003).
Some products on our site may pose a choking hazard to children aged under 3 or children who are likely to mouth objects. We advise mandatory adult supervision at all times or removal of these pieces from play until they are appropriate - you are ultimately responsible for ensuring you select items that are suitable to your individual child’s needs.
A few of our products are classed as traditional musical instruments - as these were not manufactured as toys they have not gone through the usual rigorous safety testing requirements. Though solidly made from durable materials and fun for little ones to play with, we advise supervision for children under 3 years.
As with any toys, we recommend checking over them thoroughly at regular intervals for signs of damage.
Care Guide
Wooden Products - we recommend occasionally rubbing with mineral oil or beeswax to maintain, particularly if the wood is looking dry.
Felt Products - spot clean with mild soap and water if needed. They may need shaping upon arrival - you can lightly spray with water to mould the felt into shape if needed. More tips are included in this journal post.
Baskets - spot clean with mild soap and water when required and allow to thoroughly dry. You can also check our journal post for details on shaping and care of our bolga basket range.
View our journal post on Heirloom Play Pieces for more tips on keeping your toys in great condition.

If you would like to make payment in instalments via bank transfer (think old school laybuy!) please select the bank transfer option at checkout, then reply to your confirmation email with your preferred payment amount/frequency. Stock is reserved once the order is confirmed and we are flexible on the payment period - but goods will not be sent until payment is received in full. Partial cancellations may incur a restock fee.
If you are an educational provider and would like an invoice issued for bank transfer payment prior to purchasing, please contact us with your wish list and we are happy to arrange this.
Order Collection
Pick up in Silverdale, Auckland is free - just select the 'Collect' option in the checkout. Once you have placed your order, email hello@fairplay.nz to arrange a time.
Sustainable Practices
In caring about who makes our toys we also care about how we get them to you - we try to use recyclable and compostable packing materials where possible. We are not claiming to be perfect but are always striving to do better.
We like to keep it simple - to minimise waste we don't print invoices or do additional fancy packaging. If you receive bubble wrap in your order this been recycled from something shipped to us and we encourage you to reuse it again. Although it's not the prettiest, we may also reuse clean packaging foraged from friends and family (it's whats on the inside that counts, right?!)
A few of our products still come plastic wrapped - this is direct from the supplier. All of our suppliers care deeply for the environment and are continually working on ways to improve their packaging options - in fact most are now almost entirely plastic free! Please leave a note at checkout if you would like us to remove this packaging and recycle it on your behalf.
