Hand Turned Spinning Tops

Evoking the timeless joy of a childhood classic, each of these compact 6cm spinning tops is hand-turned from sustainably sourced milkwood by Fair Trade artisans in northern India.

The craftsmen carefully shape the wood into a smooth globe, then apply a lustrous plant-based lacquer before carving a continuous cream spiral that wraps the body. Each top highlights the natural grain with woodland tones, hand-turned and painted by Fair Trade artisans in India.

Milkwood - Wrightia tinctoria R.Br. (family Apocynaceae), known locally in India by names such as doodhi or ivory-wood in Hindi, aale mara in Kannada and ankudu in Telugu.

The humble spinning top dates back thousands of years, flexing in and out of trends over time. One thing that has never changed is the immense amount of learning benefits that come from using it. From trial and error and persistence to concepts relating to physics and design elements. Adults will enjoy these just as much as the little ones!

Available as single tops or a set of 3.
