The Loyal Workshop
The Loyal Workshop was created as an employment alternative to fight human trafficking. Started by a small team of kiwis based in Kolkata, the workshop opened in 2014 and now employs eighteen women.
Located in a bustling area called Bowbazar, they are situated on the edge of the second largest red-light district where an estimated 1500-2000 women are still trapped in the sex trade.
Their artisans are women from backgrounds of poverty, each with their own story of trauma and oppression. TLW provides them with an opportunity for freedom - including a living wage, safe working conditions, medical care, counselling, education and more.
On the inside pocket of each lovingly handcrafted piece, you will find the name of the artisan who made it etched in english with her own signature in Bangla underneath. The foundation of their business is people - every woman matters.
We donate ten percent of the purchase price for each bag to Woven Earth, a New Zealand charitable organisation.
