Matr Boomie
Matr Boomie was created in 2006 and provides safe and dignified work for more than 1500 artisans in 40 partner communities throughout India. They aim to break the gender and inequality gap by creating opportunities for women and minorities to realise their creative, economic and leadership potential.
In Sanskrit, matr signifies ‘mother’ and boomie stands for ‘land’. Together, Matr Boomie means "motherland, the ground we walk on, the creative source". Matr Boomie strive to bring people and cultures together - recognising that all people are connected and belong to Mother Earth. Their products combine modern design with inspiring traditional art forms; following fair trade principles and advocating for environmentally conscious practices.
The organisation works diligently to provide a way to break the cycle of poverty in India. They go beyond fair wages and actively invest in development projects, healthcare, and education. They also provide interest free loans and skills training workshops, with an emphasis on community development, poverty alleviation and artisan empowerment.
Matr Boomie's mission is all about changing lives and creating a more beautiful and kind world.
