About the craft

A raising of surface, whether paper or metal is known as embossed. In art, its also called bas-relief, where the depth is perceived deeper, than it actually is.

Metal plate dies impress the tin to be embossed. The maker makes the wood box and then shapes the tin around the box carefully and expertly.

"Emboss" is old French, meaning em (into) and boce (protuberance).
