Woven Shaker - Caxixi
Let your minis make some noise!
Traditionally named caxixi (ca-she-she), they are usually played in pairs. Vibrant, fun percussion instruments which produce a range of sounds depending on how they are played.
The shakers are hand woven from elephant reed harvested from rich flood plains in the Bolgatanga region of Northern Ghana. They have a gourd base and are filled with small pebbles.
When shaken and rotated the caxixi makes a mixture of soft and sharp percussive sounds. It is typically played upright, using a sharp up-and-down motion so the pebbles strike the hard base.
